Strategic Plan for Ensuring the Future of the Calgary Jewish Community

On March 13th, the Strategic Planning Committee presented its report to the CJCC Board for the first round of review. Gerry Barron, the chair of the Strategic Planning Committee, presented the findings and recommendations of the committee and suggested that the Calgary Jewish community is at a precipice. We can act decisively and ensure a vibrant, dynamic, and sustainable Jewish community in Calgary or we can continue with our current mode of operations and accept the risk that the community may decline. Gerry eloquently presented both a positive and a negative vision statement that clarified the need for action and the urgency to pass this report and begin the implementation process. At the heart of the report are various strategies designed to increase and deepen rates of Jewish affiliation, engagement and connectedness.

The various agencies and organizations then shared this information with their own boards and stakeholders. The CJCC Board of Directors reconvened on March 29th and passed the report without any amendments. The CJCC Executive was mandated to operationalize the recommendations of the report by developing the timeline, budget, etc., some of which will be shared as appendices to the strategic plan. There will be numerous opportunities to learn more about the strategic plan as there will be many more presentations to the community in the near future. The CJCC is also planning a town hall meeting to roll out the strategic plan and there will be more details to come on this matter.
