Dear Calgary Community,

During hard economic times we all struggle with coming up with new cost savings measures. We know that there are only so many ways and times we can go to our community and expect financial support. What we can ask for and most likely receive is Volunteer reinforcement.

Volunteers are an untapped resource in our community. We know we call upon people to help with Boards, bingos, casinos and stuffing envelopes.  What other jobs can volunteers do for us?  We plan to find out by posting a section on the Calgary Jewish Community Council’s  website called volunteer opportunities (www.jewishcalgary.org). We are hoping your organization will join Jewish Family Service and the CJCC and create a “volunteer job bank” where community members can log on see what is available within our community no matter what their affiliation may be.

 We will be modelling the page something like what Jewish Family Service has www.jfsc.org with clear job descriptions for people to choose from.  We will provide you with the job description template to help make this process easier.  Links will be made so that every organization has an opportunity to increase their volunteer component.  We hope to get this section up and running quickly, but we can only do so if you submit your volunteer opportunities to us.  Please send all information to Ilana Krygier - ikrygierlapides@cjcc.ca as she will be responsible for managing the volunteer bank on the cjcc website.
