Since the beginning of modern art history, “western” art historians have looked to the study of history to help us understand art... to interpret it, in its own time. But an art historian is equally interested in studying art to help us understand history. Art brings with it a reflection of its time in a way that often sidesteps the “official history”. History may be written by the victors; but art is made by everyone. And so art has the power to help us see into history from myriad points of view. Professor Rachel Schmidt and Art Historian Tony Luppino will help us explore this period from different perspectives to see what we can learn.
