The autumn season often seems to be a time of endings. The natural world prepares for its winter sleep; we say good-bye to the long days of sun, family, friends and relaxation summer provides. However, autumn is also a time of beginnings as we return to our homes, our schools, our work and our shuls to pick up the lives we set aside during summer. Autumn is also the time of Elul, Slichot, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, the time of tshuva, or return to wholeness, when we repair our relationships with ourselves, each other and with G-d.
The works in Return explore these many ways that autumn calls us to return. The artists engage this theme from many different orientations: inner spiritual and emotional worlds, cultural practice, religious observance. Through the works by Betzalel Arts members visitors will experience "return" in a richly thoughtful place of colour, shape and pattern that we hope will support them in the many ways they are returning this season.
