Resolved as a Special Resolution of the Members of Calgary Jewish Federation that:
1. the objects of Calgary Jewish Federation be amended by deleting the present objects and substituting therefor the objects set forth in Schedule A hereto;
2. prior to filing the amended objects with the appropriate body of the Province of Alberta the Board of Directors be and is hereby authorized and empowered to make such changes to Schedule A hereto as the Board determines; and
3. any director or officer of Calgary Jewish Federation be and is empowered to do such acts as may be necessary or desirable to give full force and effect to this resolution.
Schedule A to the Special Resolution of the Members of Calgary Jewish Federation dated June 21, 2017.
Proposed revised and amended objects for Federation
1. to advance and support Jewish communal life for the benefit of the Jewish community of Calgary and area;
2. to advance education by providing leadership training and other educational programs to the public;
3. to foster Judaism through the provision of Mikveh, Kashrut and community chaplain services;
4. to advance Holocaust education for the benefit of the Jewish and non-Jewish communities;
5. to advance education and religion by providing religious, cultural and educational services to students, staff and the public at the University of Calgary, Mount Royal University and other institutions;
6. to advance education by providing mission trips, courses, seminars and workshops about Judaism and Jewish values such as Klal Yisrael (the community of Israel), Kol Yisrael revim lazeh (all Jews are responsible for one another), Tzedaka (righteousness, social justice) and Tikun Olam (repairing the world);
7. to advance education by conducting formal and informal education programs for youth and young adults, with particular emphasis on programs for Jews attending colleges and universities, aimed at developing, enhancing and strengthening Jewish identity and grounded in Jewish values;
8. to advance education by conducting leadership development programs aimed at equipping individuals to serve their communities in Calgary, Canada, Israel and elsewhere;
9. to advance education by conducting research and analysis relating to demographic trends and to disseminate the results publicly;
10. to advance education by conducting research and analysis with respect to bigotry and racism with particular focus on anti-Semitism and the Holocaust and to disseminate the results publicly;
11. to advance education by publishing educational materials on Judaism and Jewish values, culture and society for use in schools and educational program settings;
12. to by advance education and religion manifesting, promoting, sustaining or increasing belief in doctrines, observances and practices associated with the Jewish religion and its values and in particular those religious doctrines, practices and values associated with the role of the Torah of Israel in Judaism, the Land of Israel in Judaism, the People of Israel as a nation and the responsibility of Jews for one another;
13. to advance education by educating the public about anti-Semitism and its dangers;
14. to monitor and report when breaches of Canadian and international anti-discrimination and anti-hate laws occur;
15. to advance education by providing child, youth and adult care and programming for Jewish and non-Jewish families;
16. to relieve poverty by providing services to seniors and others in need;
17. to develop plans to address the current and emerging needs and concerns of the Jewish community;
18. to do such other things as are charitable for the benefit of the Jewish community, including the disbursement of property to, the holding of property for and the provision of assistance to qualified donees as defined for the purposes of the Income Tax Act (Canada);
19. to receive and maintain funds and to apply all or part of the principal and income therefrom, from time to time, to qualified donees as defined for the purposes of the Income Tax Act (Canada); and
20. to fund and/or carry out any activity that is beneficial to the community in a way that the law regards as charitable.
