Yom Kippur 5784

Yom Kippur (October 11-12), known as the Day of Atonement, is the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. Observed on the 10th day of Tishrei, it follows Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Yom Kippur is a solemn and reflective occasion marked by fasting, prayer, and deep reflection. Jews engage in a 25-hour fast, refraining from food, drink, and other physical comforts, seeking spiritual purification. Congregations gather at synagogues to recite prayers, particularly the Vidui (confession) and Kol Nidre, emphasizing forgiveness and reconciliation. This day serves as an opportunity for individuals to reflect on their actions, seek forgiveness from others, and reconcile with God. It concludes with the Neilah service, a powerful and emotional closing prayer.
