Jewish Youth and Young Adults Inclusion Video Contest

Direct and/or star in a video about INCLUSION and ACCESSIBILITY
– do this solo or as a group!


Contest Rules

  1. Participants must meet the following criteria to register:
    • Be between 15 and 18 years old by January 24, 2021 for the Junior Division.
    • Be between 19 and 25 years old by January 24, 2021 for the Senior Division.
    • Be a current Calgary resident or whose primary residence is in Calgary.
  2. All entries must be in digital video format.
  3. Each entry must focus on at least two of the following inclusion and accessibility ideas:
    • What does the full inclusion of individuals with disabilities mean to you as a Jewish young adult?
    • What can we do to improve the inclusion of children and adults with disabilities in Jewish Calgary?
    • Why is inclusion a Jewish right and not a mitzvah?
    • What is inclusive language? Universal design? How to make it stronger in our Jewish Calgary?
  4. Entrants may work together in groups or submit entries as individuals.
  5. Only only video may be submitted per individual or group.
  6. The length of the video should be a minimum of 60 seconds (one minute) and a maximum of three minutes in total.
  7. All entries should begin with a five second, full-screen “title screen”. Do NOT include your name, participants or actors' names anywhere in the video.
  8. All entries must be submitted in English. If entries are not in English, they must include English subtitles.
  9. All information presented in the video must be cited, giving credit to the original source. Plagiarism of any kind will result in disqualification. A proper list or your sources with corresponding citations must be submitted in your registration form.
  10. There is no entry fee.
  11. Due to file sizes, all entries must be submitted by Sunday, January 24, 2021 at  9:00pm MST to: via the We Transfer platform.
  12. Winners will be announced no later than Thursday, February 11, 2021.
  13. No copyrighted materials (music, images, etc.) may be used for this contest unless you own the copyright or have a license to use the material specifically for this contest. Written permission must be obtained and provided upon request for all copyrighted materials.
  14. Royalty Free music can be used.
  15. No professional assistance is permitted. Adults may assist with production but are limited to verbal guidance only. Adults can be actors in the video or help with video recording, but cannot be content contributors.
  16. Entrants must submit a completed and signed Registration Form and a completed and signed Actor Release Form for each person appearing in your video. Forms can be scanned and submitted by email
  17. Content must comply with all local, provincial, and national laws of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Content must not:
    • Promote illegal behaviour.
    • Support racial, religious, sexual or other invidious prejudice.
    • Advocate sexual or violent exploitation.
    • Violate rights established by law or agreement.
    • Invade the privacy of any person.
    • Or be otherwise inappropriate as determined by Calgary Jewish Federation in its sole and conclusive determination.
  18. The judges’ decisions are final. Entries will be judged on the following criteria:
    • Inclusion mindset (inclusive language, engagement, inclusion in action).
    • Ideas presented to increase awareness and promote inclusion accessibility.
    • Jewish content and inclusion.
    • Creativity.
    • Presentation.
  19. Awards (generously donated by The Lenny and Faigel Shapiro and Family Creative Awards) will be presented as follows:
    • Junior Division Awards (15 to 18 years old, as of January 24, 2021)
      • 1st Place: $600
      • 2nd Place: $300
      • 3rd Place: $100
      • Special Mention 1: $50
      • Special Mention 2: $50
    • Senior Division Awards (19 to 25 years old, as of January 24, 2021)
      • 1st Place: $600
      • 2nd Place: $300
      • 3rd Place: $100
      • Special Mention 1: $50
      • Special Mention 2: $50
  20. Entrants grant Calgary Jewish Federation the right to use their names, photographs, statements, quotes, testimonials, and video submissions for advertising, publicity, and promotional purposes without notification or further compensation.
  21. Entrants also grant Calgary Jewish Federation the right to use, reproduce, reprint, distribute, perform, and/or display the entrant’s project video without further compensation or notification to the entrant.
  22. Calgary Jewish Federation maintains the right to reproduce, reprint, distribute, perform, display, or exhibit the project for advertising, publicity, and promotional purposes on their website, at conferences, or at any other venues.
  23. Entrants agree to be bound by the official contest rules and decisions of the judges.
